History

      Food Research and Development Institute (former Canning Research Institute) is established in 1962 with a Decree of the Council of Ministers No 163/27.09.1962. In 1970 the Canning Research Institute was transformed into Centre for Research and Development of the Food Industry. Until 1980 that Centre performed highly competitive research activities in the field of post harvest technologies for fruits and vegetables intended for preservation and processing; food and vegetable processing technologies – sterilization, pasteurization; fruit and vegetable preserving technologies – cold storage, freezing, freeze drying, air drying and etc.; technologies for ready–to-eat meals - meat and meat mixed with vegetables; technologies for soft drinks; food quality – physic chemistry, microbiology, nutrition and dissemination of specialized national and international literature intended to the canning industry.
